In the world of Sunderhelm, there is no singular horizon, no familiar sky above and ground below. There is only a calamitous, beautiful, and broken realm, a world that was not only shattered, but imploded. Life persists, but it is a life amongst the strata. Each stratum, from the verdant, jagged tops to the lightless, mineral-rich depths, is a distinct realm with its own ecology, its own cultures, and its own rules of existence. To the denizens of Sunderhelm, their stratum is their entire world, until it is not.


This is a ground level build for a 24/7 living world and play-by-post server. Looking for a bit more serious style of roleplay? This may be the place for you! The idea is to lean away from full-blown whimsy (though there may still be some whimsy).

The Wailing Catacombs is a 21+ only, Dungeons and Dragons Server that runs Play by Post. We have a dark horror theme where anything could happen. DM’s are available to run their own quests and adventures. This is a server for veteran D&D players as well as new. We offer a safe environment for all to come play, relax and make new friends. We do allow NSFW and ERP, but only in private threads since this is not our main theme. This is a new server with experienced DM’s.

The Lore:
Deep within the throat of a bottomless rift, Tenebron—the City of Eternal Shadow—festers like a gangrenous wound. Its architecture is not merely built; it is carved from a jagged, obsidian stone that does not just obstruct light, but actively hungers for it.

In these suffocating streets, the air is thick with a sentient, freezing mist that clings to the skin like a wet shroud, refusing to dissipate even as the centuries rot away.

Beneath the heavy weight of the cobblestones lies a truth far more necrotic than mere rumor. A sprawling, ancient labyrinth of catacombs serves as a reservoir for a sea of tormented souls—entities that have been denied the mercy of death.

When the oppressive silence of Tenebron finally settles, the air begins to vibrate with a sound that defies human comprehension. It is a wet, rhythmic keening that rises from the cracks in the earth. This is no mere "chorus"; it is a sonic assault of pure, unadulterated agony. Those who listen for too long are found with their fingers worn to the bone from clawing at their own ears, their minds shattered by the sheer gravity of the sorrow.

Forbidden texts suggest that Tenebron was never intended as a home for the living, but as a massive, parasitic machine designed to siphon the black energy of the depths.

The sun has died in the sky, and the world has gone dark. This event, known as the Sunfall, bathed the world in the freezing night. Yet, against all odds, civilization has survived.

Amongst the icy plains, amongst the glaciers, amongst the giant snow drifts and amongst the ruins of a world millennia lost, stands the glowing spires and the shining beacons of Jormundy. Warmth and light shine down from its towers, and its dome shelters it from the cold, dark world outside.

But this light and warmth does not radiate equally.

Under the dome, cloaked by the light, behind the walls lays a structure caught in a nightmare of development. Jormundy is experiencing its own little industrial revolution, and all the inequality that comes with it as it destroys the land it sits on and the air it breathes. It finds itself segregated into layers, its workers destined to never become anything more, its elites clinging onto power forever. The Hearth Church stands atop it all, watching with one first of velvet and another of iron looming over all, locked in a never-ending scramble to destroy all that is heretical.

But discontent grows. Whispers of solidarity stir in the shadows, forgotten gods find their followers, and the night grows ever colder.
