This doesn't have as much to do with the stakes of a given game so much as it does the mechanics and who each individual player is playing. In the Ruin of Old and the Many Mystical Land, the Nightmare still skulking to plan for their revenge and later on dominance, either by resurrecting the End again or by their own Incomprehensible Path. Finally the Follower of Ruin and End still on the Loose, some has return to a semblance of cruel kingdom and empire, other forgotten most but retain their savagery and uncivilized nature.

Your forefather and your people are both survivor and participant of the War to End the Ruin. After living nomadic and adventure life your ancestor have now just settled here as they found out the secret of sedentary life in this new world in the form of Divine Engine.

But their story has end, and now it is yours story. as you are now have ascend or trusted enough to lead your clan, either to prosperity or victory.
