The year is 20XX.

The first strange event was the appearance of The Singularity. A massive blue star that appeared with no warning, eclipsing the sun and dying the world under a deep purple sky. The second strange event was the rise of a mysterious disease called The Entropy, which strips a human being of The Foundational Elements of Human Nature--their Ethos (ethics and character), Logos (logic and reasoning) and Pathos (emotions and empathy) … Without ELP, those infected with The Entropy became violent, thoughtless husks.

Right when all hope seemed lost in this strange new world, Japan's largest tech company, Machina Tech built three walls, Ena, Dyo and Tria … called Rings, and within these walls, the safe haven known as Santolina was born.

Yet all was not right. A cure for The Entropy was needed, and so The Negentropy Project Research Team was founded. Operating underground, beneath the walled city, these experts created an experiment called The Game. They pulled Subjects--that's you--from other worlds in order to put them through a series of dangerous Trials that tests their mental, physical and emotional fortitude. All for the sake of gathering ELP to transfer to those suffering with The Entropy.

An ancient and sordid wasteland at the foot of a mystic mountain encompassing the north. To the south, a crimson sea thrashes against an endless horizon. This ghostly city is home to hundreds of thousands of souls and known by several names. Here, you will call it Hollowgate and it exists beneath the thumb of one of the nine kings of hell. All newly died spirits start in the Western District—the most populated and impoverished area. If you want a better afterlife, you'll have to earn it by any means necessary.

Both seemed strange, cold even, yet they offer up contracts to all who were about to perish with a soft smile. It's hard to tell what their end goal is and if the people are saved as a kind gesture or simply because the two needed something to play with. Yet one thing is very clear: both wish to win their side of the game and none will live again without the blessing from one of the twins.

It was a simple task to be victorious over another team, and yet it seemed as if this game wasn't all that it appeared to be. Each day the Nest, the large spaceship that one awakes on, sails through the galaxy, and each day it seemed as if rebirth was drifting away with each world passed. Small game after game is played, each winning a Crown and a small reward, and yet no game seems to be the final one.

located near the green mountain national forest, there’s a small cozy town where the seasons never change and no one leaves. the people that have grown up in woodhaven will happily reside there for the rest of their lives and they tend to be happy with the fact that it’ll slowly grow for further generations. whether you’re friends, family, or even foes, chances are you know everyone in town.

after the disappearance of woodhaven’s own royalty— mayor fuentes’ son, theo fuentes— goes missing, woodhaven’s community falls into a panic. there’s no evidence left behind indicating where he could be or what happened leading up to it. although detectives have tried to investigate the situation, interrogations look bleak with everyone’s lack of knowledge on the situation.

almost two years later, the once simplistic comforting feeling of woodhaven is shattered when their park’s mural is vandalized. “WHERE’S MY WELCOME BACK PARTY? – T” reports begin to flood of threatening messages through notes, emails, and odd gifts from an anonymous source believed to be theo. with the influx of tourism and new town citizens, there’s no way of knowing who could be behind it.

theo was always known for being the perfect friend, son, and student but the cryptic messages, blackmail, and threats seemed to have clouded the judgement of his peers in town. the town that once knew everything about each other is starting to realize they don’t know everyone’s secrets.

Fear of Cold takes place largely within The Cold-- an alternate universe that has been plunged into an infinite, paranormal winter. Every muse that enters is a foreigner to this land, and each one had found themselves in front of a door before arriving. This door was not always literal; for some, it appeared in their dreams, or maybe it was a stranger picture in the newspaper they gleaned over moments before they arrived. For others it was illogical– a door that should have led to nowhere, standing alone in an all too empty forest.

Once they arrive in the cold, they almost always find themselves on the brink of death. Suddenly plunged into temperatures below freezing, Minutes felt like hours, the inner workings of their bodies slowing down to a crawl as they clawed their way through this land. The lucky ones will find themselves face to face with Esperanza, A walled city with a roaring, churning Generator in the center. The walls keep the heat in, and once the patrol spots their form against the snow, they are brought inside to thaw out; whether this was better than dying out in the snow is difficult to tell.
