The whole roleplay is set in a nuclear wasteland, starting right at the moment the bombs drop, where everything changes in a matter of seconds. It follows that same kind of sudden collapse where people are caught off guard, and survival immediately becomes the only thing that matters. Your character has to figure out how they make it through that first day, whether that means reaching a bunker in time, being far enough from the blast to avoid the worst of it, or just getting incredibly lucky and escaping before the radiation spreads too heavily. However it happens, it sets the tone for everything that comes after.
Once that initial chaos settles, the world opens up into a harsh wasteland environment. Exploration becomes a core part of the experience, with different locations to travel to, each with their own risks and rewards. You might be scavenging through collapsed buildings, abandoned towns, or old facilities that haven’t been touched since the bombs fell. Looting plays a big role in survival, since resources are limited and you never really know what you’re going to find. Some places might give you exactly what you need, while others might leave you worse off than when you started. There are also merchants scattered throughout the wasteland, survivors who managed to carve out some form of stability and are willing to trade supplies, weapons, or other useful items.

In the year 2276, the Commonwealth is entering an age of turmoil. The Minutemen are in disarray after the death of General Joe Becker, scrambling to find a replacement for him, still trying to keep the Commonwealth from chaos. The Railroad operate in secret, freeing synths, but the place above is beginning to learn of its existence. The Brotherhood of Steel have begun reaching into the Commonwealth, seeking to bring it under their form of order. And the Institute awaits beneath it all, moving the Commonwealth to their own plan.
