These bonds aren’t just romantic, as some can be platonic, familial, or even just two enemies bound to forever chase after one another. The only thing in common is that they’re always permanently attached to you and part of your inner soul.

With a special scientific phenomenon called neural parabiosis, soulmates are able to share each other’s pain no matter how far they are from each other. If one of them is hurt, the other feels it too. As terrifying as the idea should have been, over time the society back then turned this phenomenon into both comfort and an obsession, with their clinging to the idea that suffering meant connection still existed.

But with billions of people in the world, finding your soulmate was almost impossible unless you had the funds to travel the world everywhere. Many gave up hope, accepting relationships with no value instead of going through all the trouble. That is, until the “Hopeful Hearts Project” claimed it could solve everyone’s issue by gathering chosen participants on an isolated island to match them up with their soulmates. It was extremely popular, (very) controversial, and short-lived, as it ended abruptly with no explanation and all traces of its organizers vanishing.

Now in this age, soulmate culture has faded into the obscurity of everyday life. People move on, choosing love and life without waiting. You’ve just graduated Hope’s Peak Academy and were ready to start your future with your soulmate being the last thing to ever be on your mind.

welcome to a cruise of the soul!

**affinity protocol** is a non-despair, soulmate au roleplay of danganronpa. in this server characters are romantically bounded by fate with another, who is known as their "soulmate". soulmate culture is based around the concept of *compatibility*, where choices made in one's life can affect their *compatibility percentage* with their soulmate. the higher your compatibility percentage, the stronger your bond becomes.

the average compatibility percentage of a soulmate couple is 50%+, with everyone starting at 0% when they first meet their soulmate. society elites are among the top few who have been able to reach 100% compatibility with their partner, making it a longtime goal for regular individuals.

although compatibility is mainly based on personal growth and good decisions, *fate pulls* are also able to manipulate the overall percentage. obtained through the __soulsync app__, bought fate pulls are able to be used at any given time in one’s lifetime to increase their compatibility percentage by a random amount. the more expensive or rarer the fate pull is, the bigger is the boost that is guaranteed for one's percentage.

setting wise, __this server takes place on a cruise ship exploring the sea of japan__. the soulsync company has sponsored *hope's peak academy* students to attend the cruise in hopes of promoting their app, while also using student passengers as test subjects for new features. other locations may be unlocked throughout in-server roleplay events, such as nearby islands or countries.
