"　　ཀ　　In the world you live in, everyone is born with a soulmate mark. Those marks connect you to each individual soulmate (multiple or just one) you may have. These bonds aren’t just romantic, as some can be platonic, familial, or even just two enemies bound to forever chase after one another. The only thing in common is that they’re always permanently attached to you and part of your inner soul.

With a special scientific phenomenon called neural parabiosis, soulmates are able to share each other’s pain no matter how far they are from each other. If one of them is hurt, the other feels it too. As terrifying as the idea should have been, over time the society back then turned this phenomenon into both comfort and an obsession, with their clinging to the idea that suffering meant connection still existed.

But with billions of people in the world, finding your soulmate was almost impossible unless you had the funds to travel the world everywhere. Many gave up hope, accepting relationships with no value instead of going through all the trouble. That is, until the “Hopeful Hearts Project” claimed it could solve everyone’s issue by gathering chosen participants on an isolated island to match them up with their soulmates. It was extremely popular, (very) controversial, and short-lived, as it ended abruptly with no explanation and all traces of its organizers vanishing.

Now in this age, soulmate culture has faded into the obscurity of everyday life. People move on, choosing love and life without waiting. You’ve just graduated Hope’s Peak Academy and were ready to start your future with your soulmate being the last thing to ever be on your mind.
