You sift through the days mail; bills, advertisements for things you’d never even consider, plain white envelope after plain white envelope. All forgettable, and certainly not worth your time (…well except maybe those bills…). But as your finger slides across that last letter; covered in a pristine black envelope, bound in a glittering blue ribbon, sealed with a delicate wax crest… you pause. Its surface is cool beneath your touch, almost velvety, as though it’s been waiting just for you. With a soft tear, it opens. Inside lies a single letter, handwritten in graceful cursive.

“Congratulations! You have been one of the twenty-two Ultimates selected to enjoy a free luxury cruise!”

You blink. That certainly can’t be right. A free cruise? In this economy?! The idea is laughable, absurd, and obviously a scam or some kind of tasteless joke. And yet… every curve of ink is flawless, every word deliberate, every detail correct, written in that unnervingly perfect hand.

Perhaps curiosity is stronger than reason. Perhaps you tell yourself it’s worth showing up, just to prove to yourself that it’s fake. After all, what’s the worst that could happen? It’s only a harmless prank.
