600 years ago, ancient texts speak of a great cataclysm that shattered the world and humanity and left the survivors squabbling over scraps. The empires of old are said to have had weapons that shot lightning and horses of steel... but they are but a memory. Knowledge has been lost as the books containing them have forced people to use them as fire fuel out of desperation and frigid winters, and brutality has returned to the world
But hope fills the air. New kingdoms arose centuries ago and they are beginning to rediscover the secrets of old, either independently or with help from scavenged ancient texts being interpreted by scholars. Welcome to a world of change.
