“My little girl is out there, and you’re telling me you are just gonna give up! She’s seven years old!”
The man looked old, even though he was in his late thirties. He had started graying early, probably from stress. The other man, who looked to be in his early twenties was an officer.
“We’ve done all that we can. At this point your safety is a concern. It’s getting dark. Please sir, go home. We will keep watch nearby if she wanders back this way.”
The man, I assumed now to be her father, quickly snapped back.
“MY LITTLE GIRL IS OUT THERE! I don’t care for my safety officer. I’m going in alone!”
The man began to try and push past, as he did so the other officers ran over to restrain him. At this point I had turned away, going back into the forest. She had been wearing a yellow coat. I found her in my part of the woods...close to my pack. I took the jacket, tearing it a bit and placed it near where the girl was last seen. I thought the father needed to think she was gone, that she wouldn’t come home. What did we do with her? Some say we brought her into the pack, others say we killed her. Both pose problems..but both were a choice. The humans can’t know of us...we must keep it that way.
