18 Years ago in 171 AG, Avatar Korra was killed by the Red Lotus. In a nearly two decade long plot, the group, led by Zaheer, was able to finally capture Korra. By poisoning her, they were able to weaken her into a state where they could finally fight her on somewhat even ground. Everyone in the Red Lotus ended up dying in the encounter aside from Zaheer, who engaged in a large-scale battle with Korra. With the help of the airbenders, Zaheer was defeated. Unfortunately, the injuries sustained in the battle combined with the poison inflicted on Korra led to her passing away.
In the years since, the world has changed dramatically. The Earth Empire, originally led by Kuvira, has taken the entire Earth Kingdom. A radicalist organization in the Fire Nation has been attempting to overthrow their leaders in order to return to the ways of Fire Lord Ozai, Sozin, and Azulon. Bandits and mercenaries ran rampant for nearly a decade. The Avatar was found nearly ten years ago, but to this day they still can't even bend a second element. Some believe the Avatar Cycle truly died with Korra, while others claim that the world would be better without an Avatar, so they don't care. The truth? The current "Avatar" was chosen due to a lapse in judgment, and they are a false Avatar.
It is now 189 AG, and the world seems as close to peaceful as it can be. The "Avatar" is being trained, the four nations seem to be at peace, and the spirits and humans tolerate one another. In the background though, the Earth Empire has grown more and more corrupt. In three months, they'll strike and completely change the balance of the world. Republic City will fall, and not long after so will the United Republic of Nations. Will the world enter another era of darkness?
