Winter winds blow in from the north, bringing little flurries in snow. The ground turns white as morning dew freezes upon the grass. It is unseasonably cold in Bannerfall but it has yet to properly snow. Everyone is scrambling to get things built to hide from the chill.
As frozen fingers slowly close around the twin kingdoms, something odd occurs. Portals, from realms beyond, open like tears in the tapestry of reality. It seems prayers to the spirits have been answered. New recruits! Yet, it feels that not all is as it seems.

Bannerfall was once a single kingdom that existed in peace. Its lands were united beneath one crown, and its people lived together in quiet harmony, believing their kingdom to be whole and unbreakable.
But many years ago—so many that the exact number has long since been forgotten—something within Bannerfall fractured. For reasons that have faded with time, half of the kingdom turned away from the crown and defected, breaking the unity that had once defined the realm.
From that divide came two rival kingdoms: the Red Kingdom, formed by those who left, and the Blue Kingdom, made up of those who remained loyal to the monarchy.
What followed was war.
Years passed, then many more, until the conflict became something constant. Generations have grown up knowing the clash of red and blue banners more than they remember the peace that once existed. The war has lasted so long that few can truly recall why it began—only that it did, and that it has never truly ended.
