Hi! This server was created by Talia (she/her). I am a verbalflux, semiconversational* part-time TTS user. I've been this way for several years. I made this group in order for people to be able to talk with other AAC and TTS users. There is another group, but it's for under 18's only so I wanted to make an 18+ space separately.
AAC stands for Augmentative Alternative Communication.
TTS stands for Text to Speech.
The verbality continuum has various terms: semiverbal, nonverbal/nonspeaking, minimally verbal, hyperverbal, "nonverbal episodes", selective mutism, and non-conversational.
*Semi-conversational: when a person experiences varying degrees of being able to initiate and/or keep the flow of a conversation.
I encourage members to research more information on this terminology. Non-AAC/TTS users are also welcome to join in and learn. AAC can take many forms: high tech, low tech, mid-tech, sign language, Makaton..
Rule of thumb, remain respectful of other members in this server and remember to mark potentially sensitive topics with spoiler tags. Adhere to Discord ToS.
