Underbrooke (often called the Underworld) is a purgatory realm, Hades reshaped this dimension to visually mirror Storybrooke—creating an unsettling, eternally twilight version of the town complete with an inverted clock tower, a pawnshop, and a library.
Key Details & Story. Significance Origin: Hades created this dark reflection of Storybrooke to give Zelena her own version of the town her younger sister Regina Created.
Our story starts here:
Emma Swan inadvertently turned Captain Hook into a Dark One, to save his life. Later on Hook sacrificed himself to defeat the darkness, sending him to the Underworld.
Now Emma and her family venture to Underbrooke, to rescue his soul.
Hades' Manipulation: Hades traps the heroes in Underbrooke. He demands that for every soul they help move on to a better place, one of the heroes must stay in the Underworld in their place.
Unfinished Business: Throughout their time in Underbrooke, the heros help various deceased characters (such as Hercules, Megara, Regina's father Henry, and Hook's brother Liam) resolve their past regrets and pass on.
The Tombstone Clue: The heroes discover a book detailing how others previously tried to overthrow Hades. They learn that those who fail to cross over have their names etched onto tombstones.
Zelena and Hades: A major plot involves Hades manipulating Zelena (the Wicked Witch). He tricks her into trusting him, while her sister Regina and Robin Hood fight to protect her and baby Robin from his control.
The Final Showdown: Hades remodels the Underworld to look exactly like the town of Storybrooke. He tricks the heroes into leaving their names behind, preventing them from returning home. Ultimately, using the Olympian Crystal, Hades is able to venture into the real Storybrooke.
