Seven years have gone by since the battle in Shinjuku, the night that marked the end of Sukuna’s reign and the beginning of an uneasy calm. It’s a battle that reshaped Japan’s jujutsu landscape, reducing neighborhoods to rubble, exposing sorcery to the edge of public consciousness, and forcing the high-ups to face just how fragile their world was. Sukuna was defeated, sealed out of public consciousness, and for the first time in generations, the curse of inevitability was shattered. All the main characters survived, but survival did not bring back the world as it was before.

In the years since, the Jujutsu Society has gone through a period of reconstruction, both physical and ideological. The traditional ways in which the sorcerers used to live have slowly begun to break down under the pressures exerted by the new generation who have witnessed the price of blind loyalty. Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu High have been rebuilt, merged in intent if not in location, and refocused as institutions of training rather than sacrifice. Sorcerers are trained for longer periods, think more widely, and openly question authority. The days of throwaway students are behind us, but the marks of those days still remain.
