The War on High Tides

[Loading Introduction...]

Welcome to War. Welcome to the fight of your life.

[Query: What are you?]
War on High Tides - WoHT in short - is a server based on the lore of Azur Lane that focuses on the modern day, yet also pays homage to the times of old and the mechanics of the game. WoHT strives to give you, the player, a new take on the game's lore. What are the mysterious enemies that the Sirens fight against? What happened to timelines that were overran by these mysterious and dangerous enemies? What weapons do we have at our disposal to fight against these abominations of dimensional instability? We have answers to all of these questions, but the last question can be answered simply - you are the weapon.

[Query: Is this server fair, or biased towards a particular era?]
Featuring a combat system unique to the server that includes everything from battleship guns to modern missiles, WOHT strives to create a balance between the technologies of the future with the weapons of eras long past, but also allow for the freedom to experiment however you would like. Our server is welcoming towards new ideas, and your freedom to venture outside the bounds that you have never thought of is encouraged.

[Query: What if I don't want to play as a KAN-SEN?]
WoHT relies not on just the KAN-SEN, but also the actions of humanity. As such, human officers are always welcome. The KAN-SEN may be able to defend against the horrors of the abyss, but it is the actions of the officers that allow the KAN-SEN to fight to their fullest degree.

This server's been around for a bit, but there's no reviews. I'll highlight my experience in WOHT in the past couple months I've been inside it. I'd put this server at the lowest being a 3.5 (which I'll round up), and the highest being 4.5, so a solid 4/5. Not bad at all. I'll give my reasonings for why I won't give this server a 5/5 or why I think it could dip to 3.5. If you don't wanna read my entire review, I'll have a summarized portion. Scroll to the bottom. I assure you, there'll be no fluffing.

1. Interesting premise and setting, and very flexible submissions. With how the submission guidelines work in the server, I found myself seeing the possibility of submitting vessels ranging from galleons, auxiliary cruisers, a freaking catamaran ferry, late 90s or early 2000s guided missile destroyers, or nuclear USN cruisers. As long as your ship isn't an entirely fictional commercial product from a certain game, I guarantee you can get it in. Someone even submitted an SCP ship, while not to my taste, demonstrates the inherent freedom of choice you have at choosing your character. Furthermore, there's a faction known as 'The Displaced,' characters and ships from other worlds, who can make their own lore on how they got displaced, giving you even more freedom. I personally thought this was pretty nice. The cast is very colorful.

2. Very, VERY, very nerd-coded members and staff members. Y'know outside of actually writing, the members in the server are very passionate about naval history and anything in the present or recent history that pertains to anything navy-wise. Do you wanna know about how the RAN bought a civilian catamaran for active service? See the most obscure concept or prototype ships you've never heard of? Learn about particular navies and their designs? Yeah, #miscellaneous-media has practically turned into #navy-talk-media 60% of the time. I find this to be pretty cool since you'll see ships that are usually NEVER submitted. There's even a freaking Royal Navy monitor in the roleplay and even a DANISH ship! Who the hell even submits any Danish ships?! Yeah, the members are nice, and they can even help with thinking of characters or the submission process.

3. 'I'm-Not-Reading-Allat-Combat-Document.'
The combat system document is over 19 pages. I really, really don't like combat systems. I think it's really stupid, when you could just do honor combat. This is one of the negative aspects of the server, for me, of course. If you do not like combat systems, because I've been spoiled by honor combat and fighting other people in honor combat. This is only tolerable to me since there are cool people, and the server is interesting enough for me to tolerate it. Whoever made this system or envisioned this was a good idea, I hope your pillows are warm on both sides. It is hard to believe that people are 'incompetent' enough not to do honor combat. If this isn't the reason. I can't think of any other reason, you must be sadistic. The entertainment value of honor combat is better since both sides are more involved in the fight's outcome rather than rolls or values. If you like combat systems, this server has it. But I personally do not like it, so I'll say this is an overall negative to my experience.

4. The writing can be mixed. People have varying levels of writing competency and punctuation. If you measure 'writing skill' by 'literacy skill or level,' I abhor you, you're a demon. A pure demon who doesn't even understand what the word 'literacy' is. Everyone can read! Why literacy level?! Isn't that also a little insulting? C'mon! Everyone comprehending these words are literate! Off-topic rant aside, I personally do not find the writing skills to be adequate, for me, but that's also perfectly OK. People have different levels of writing, and they'll ALWAYS improve. Some characters are quite interesting, very much so. There are writers who make well fleshed out characters. The writing scene is varied inside WOHT. This isn't a negative aspect of the server, but my experience, and what you could expect. Or not. Writing is always changing.

5. Uhhh for missions. I lowkirkgenuinely don't remember ever being in one. The last 2 months have had only 2 staff members hosting them, and 1 hasn't because they're busy. Most of the fighting I've done was actually at base, and it was by pure honor combat, against other characters, organically. Activity wise at base and OOC channels, nothing is wrong. I don't really have an issue, at least for me. There have been non-combat oriented missions but story-based one, if you want stuff that aren't just combat. If you request for a roleplay scene, you'll also probably get someone, I've never had a silent reply, as of current.

6. I don't really gaf about roleplay economies, but I guess there is one, if you like those stuff? I'm not detract or add any points, I mean, it's irrelevant, to my experience.

I don't have much else to stay, the issues this server does have, to my experience, doesn't really break anything. Overall, there's more good things I could say about this server than bad ones. There are things I disagree with, but it doesn't break the server. There are stuff I don't find satisfying, but it's not inherently harmful or bad to the server.

SUMMARY:
- Nerd members and staff who know the quirkiest stuff about naval designs or history, very good community. Nice people.
- A 19 page long combat system that I do not like since I don't like combat systems, I like honor combat rp. Economy in roleplay I don't care about. Grug hates stupid value and number fighting roleplay.
- Very flexible array of ships you could submit ranging from those British 'people' sailing ships to modern missile destroyers or niche minor nation ships and many more, as long as its not a fake commercial product from a certain game.
- Interesting premise and setting, you can make your own lore for characters that are 'displaced.'
Displaced = character/ship from another world like for example, a USS Johnston from another world different from the setting, how she got there, you make shit up, your own way.
- Missions slightly slow but still missions, staff dedicated to missions.
- Mixed levels of writing and punctuation.
- Yes, you can make paper ships, just real life ones, also there should be more info in the server. Can't bother to say info that already exists.
- A lot of available help if trouble with lore or ship, prob someone nerd enough to even get u a blueprint.
ok thats it, goodbye
