A HOMESTUCK ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE AU

Earth was a messy utopia: trolls, humans, carapacians, and consorts all building a patchwork society. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked. The drug started as a medical breakthrough. It numbed pain, fixed mood spirals, let you work harder, sleep less. Everyone from factory workers to exhausted parents to battle-worn trolls used it. Within a few years, it wasn’t just medicine, it was recreational. Almost every community had it in circulation. The side effect hit like a joke at first: “wow, that guy’s still moving after flatlining.” Then it stopped being funny. Dead users started waking up- twisting, gnashing, fast and feral. Not hungry for brains, just violent. The worst part? Not just addicts. Anyone who’d ever taken it in their life is a ticking time bomb. Even if they’re clean now. Even if they’ve been dead for weeks.

Cities are gutted, streets full of twitching husks. Whole neighborhoods burned down in panic. Rural settlements survive better- low population density, easier to isolate. But they’re paranoid, trigger-happy, and not always welcoming to refugees.

Carapacian and consort enclaves exist, but their responses vary- some barricaded, some experimenting, some leaning into cultish devotion to the “reborn.” It’s not just a survival problem, it’s a trust problem. Anyone could turn. Anyone who ever took the drug is suspect. “Clean” survivors resent and fear the infected-but-still-living. The infected feel cornered, some in denial, some desperate to prove they’re still themselves. Some groups worship the husks, calling them an “ascension.” Others hunt them ruthlessly, like pest control.

Raw survival horror with heavy paranoia. Easy room for interpersonal drama- old friends turning on each other, lovers hiding their infection, families breaking down.
