Hostile Environment and Passive-Aggressive Moderation

I joined The Reptile Room looking for a light-hearted community where members could share their interests and prioritize reptile education. Unfortunately, my experience was quite the opposite. Rather than finding a supportive space for hobbyists, I encountered a pervasive culture of toxicity that was difficult to ignore.
The member base was frequently hostile toward one another, and the moderation team did very little to intervene or foster a more positive atmosphere. When I attempted to discuss educational resources, the interaction I had with a moderator was short and passive-aggressive. Instead of feeling informed or encouraged to learn, I was left feeling defensive and unwelcome.
The environment was discouraging enough that I’ve decided to unsubscribe from the associated YouTube channel. I cannot support a creator whose community allow this type of behavior to persist.
It is deeply disappointing to see a platform that should be fostering growth become a prime example of the negativity found in certain corners of the reptile community. If you are looking for a well-organized, educational, and welcoming environment to discuss reptile keeping, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. In its current state, this server is simply not a constructive space for keepers.
