The Umbral Masquerade is a text-based roleplay server set around vampires trying to survive in modern-day England after a vampiric purge hundreds of years ago, leading to humans believing they have eradicated vampires forever - they were wrong.

Vampires are required to deceive humans into believing that vampires dont exist anymore, this is the masquerade, and there can be great consequences if any vampires break this rule.

Maerune is a European kingdom that resembles parts of Rome and France, and is run by one large family, and smaller noble families. A sickness swept through the kingdom leaving people cold, mistrusting and callous towards one another. The royals are trying to keep everyone safe and calm. The sickness wasn't actually a sickness but vampires living in a further Kingdom, Solviryn.

Westhollow is a Gulf-coast city with cane fields to the west, brackish wetlands to the east, and a wound at its center older than the planes that hold it shut. Built in 1752 by a cabal of refugee monsters — Cainite vampires, exiled Fey, academic witches, Shifters from every clan — and bound together by a treaty written in the blood two hundred and seventy-four years ago to keep a creature locked below the city and the mortals ignorant.

But that Veil is failing. Phones don't forget. Mortals are starting to notice. The thing in the Hollow is dreaming louder.
