The Neuro Cafe

The Neuro Café is a large community server for an by autistics from a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences. We welcome all autistics; the self-identified and the institutionally recognised, as well as anyone who are wondering, but not yet sure, if they might not be autistics themselves.

Who are we?
As a server we are open to all autistic individuals. However, our server is particularly meant to be a space that accomodates underdiagnosed demographics within the autism community at large. These are people with backgrounds that has made it hard for them to access a formal diagnosis because of either stigma or economic restraints.

Context:
Autism is a type of neurodiversity where an individual has sensory experiences that diverge from the norm, something that often translates into weird behaviour and interests in the eyes of the general public, and trouble adapting to the expectations of society at large. Autism is typically presented as a condition that affects children (particularly boys), but this is more so the product of biases in our health care systems and in medical research. Adults, women and girls, and other minorities are increasingly being diagnosed with autism.
