Galego-Portuguesando

New language exchange server for English-speaking people (you don’t have to be native) who are interested in Galician and/or Portuguese, and for Galician and Portuguese speakers who wish to practice their English.

Galician is a Western Iberian Romance spoken in Galicia, Northwestern Spain, that shares a common ancestor with modern Portuguese. As Galicia chose to remain within the Kingdom of León, which ultimately became part of Modern Spain, its version of the language experienced heavy Castilian influence, causing it to diverge in accent, prononciation and vocabulary from Portuguese. Even so, the two are still extremely close to each other and their similarities allow for near 100% written mutual intelligibility.

**Why did we start Galego-Português-English Exchange?**

- As its name itself suggests, our server is unique in that it combines Portuguese and Galician onto a single server.
- Admin joined all of the major Portuguese servers that are listed on an ad server. When asked to pick a “dialect” role, Admin was disappointed that unfortunately none of them featured a “Galician” option, nor a separate Galician section.
- To fill up this vacuum, Admin decided to create a server that stresses the ties between the two brother languages and encourages linguistic, cultural, philosophical and ideological exchange between the Galician-speaking community and the Lusophone world... and of course the English-speaking world as well.
