_____________________________
Bloody London has concluded the grand finale of its 4-year-long Metaplot - focused around Hunters and Kindred alike chasing after the ghosts of Mithras' legacy. But now, the quiet before the storm has been broken with the arrival of Hunters beginning to conscript vampires with the option between serving their Penance or facing the Pyre. What threat could be dangerous enough to cause even the Inquisition pause? Demons are stirring, suspicions of infernalism abound. Something is coming, and the City of London may not be prepared for what is yet to come...

As we embark on our next Storyline after half a decade of events leading up to this point in our chronicle it is the perfect time to join and see what makes our London especially bloody. Hunters, the legacies of Methuselahean plots, three warring Sects, the arrival of an Archon, and demonic activity beginning to stir in the heart of London, surely there couldn't be any more nasty surprises on the horizon...

So why am I giving it a one star review? Because I was never able to experience any of this. There are multiple rules, restrictions and bottlenecks that tie you down during character creation. At some point I thought it might be best to simply ask the staff to have them make me a character seeing as everything I suggested was shot down for their restrictions, not to mention I didn't feel welcomed at all. Every time I tried to say hello in general or interact with any conversation I was pretty much ignored. Fun right?

Let’s break down my complaints with this server.

The Unfriendly Atmosphere. The place seems friendly, it seems well loved and everyone seems to get along, which I’m sure they do! But they’ve also probably been there for years. As someone who has just joined I didn’t feel any of that. I felt ignored and brushed aside. It made me quite agitated with the playerbase as a whole. :(

Character Creation. I’ve been doing roleplay for 12 years. Twelve. From Star Wars to Game of Thrones to Fantasy worlds of varying degrees to World of Darkness in all its flavors. I’ve never felt as miserable with character creation as I have with Bloody London. “Hey, can I have this?” “No. Impossible to start with.” “Oh, okay, what about a mortal?” “No. Despite saying we allow mortals, we will tell you no.” I understand this is a vampire server, but if you’re going to allow mortals, allow them? They simply said that my character was unable to interact with any of the Kindred population and have no motive for interacting with them without even asking for what I was planning to do in that regard. Well what about a Sabbat Character? I have an idea that's perfect! Nope. Only if you’ve been roleplaying for two (?) months can you play a sabbat character. Well okay… That was ALL of character creation. I was shut down at every opportunity and it made me genuinely miserable. (they also have a WILD amount of possible characters. I think I saw someone with 10 characters? That’s a lot? How do you keep track of that as a single person? Not a complaint, just wild that many characters are allowed.) Not to mention they use a VERY outdated character sheet (it’s just a PDF of the base character sheet) instead of the google sheets with XP and freebie tracking and calculations all done for you. Very dated, annoying to work with.

The Odd Faceclaim Rules. This was another baffling rule, You are not allowed to use art of another person’s OC that exists anywhere on the internet, forcing you to use Picrew or photos of real life people (something I think is worse than “stealing” another person's OC). I understand it in a way? But for someone with no disposable income I can’t commission a character art every other day, nor do I have the time or learned skill to draw my own characters or teach myself to draw. So…I make a Picrew? Come on now. I do believe this is a personal anger from the Staff team as I’ve never seen such a rule on any other server ever.

The server is filled with these odd little rules everywhere that make character creation a literal headache inducing slog (I literally had a headache making a character!) I’m sure that once you get through character creation the server is great and fun, from what I saw the Roleplay sure looked fun and all of the homebrew work the staff team has done is top tier work, I just couldn’t get through character creation and for that reason I have to say,

Stay away. I cannot recommend this server to anyone.

To the staff reading this, eto bleh? I’m sorry, your work in creating this world is wonderful and the ideas are beautiful (A GARGOYLE PRINCE?! THAT'S SO FUCKING COOL!) but come on. Lighten up a little on your restrictions. I desperately wanted to make a character and enjoy what you had going but as I said earlier I felt that multiple times I would be better off asking you all to make a sheet for me so that it would comply with your rules. I am sorry if I came off as rude to any of you but the character creation process made me cranky as did you constantly telling me no.

Hi Stardust, I don't know if you'll see this response but we just wanted to address your complaints. We're truly sorry you felt unwelcome, but from what I saw firsthand at the time and in review now, there was quite a bit of active and friendly engagement with the community over many days! It appears only in the brief time after the first set of notes during the approval process occurred (as well as your public follow-up questions asking the community for ideas about a throwaway character) that responses slowed. That there was often active discussion with other players' concepts and ideas in a busy channel unfortunately likely contributed too.

As for character creation, we do want to break-down the specific issues you had. The only thing you were told was 'impossible' to have was True Faith, which is a fairly common restriction across V20 servers/games. For mortals as a first PC, we always give advisement on the difficulties they can face as a player's only character, since we have seen firsthand 'buyer's remorse' from 1st PC mortal players essentially every time due to slower progression with knowing involvement with the Supernatural, compared to the ease that Fledgling/Neonate Kindred of the Camarilla/Anarchs have. We gave this advisement as the first point of your Approvals notes for your Hedge Mage/Linear Sorcerer Mortal, but you were not barred from proceeding; it was directly stated as a mere suggestion before continuing with the comprehensive review and ideas to get your mortal approved. Sabbat Characters are restricted to 2nd+ characters due to the server being a Camarilla Neonate-focused Chronicle first and foremost. And for 'shutting down' your ideas, the last proposition you made after you choosing to bin your mortal after the first feedback was to openly desire to make a throwaway character; asking, as a direct quote from you in public character-forge ideas, "So like, are staff okay if I make a character for the required time, do like, a dozen scenes and then just...kinda forget about them?" This not only is trying to loophole around character creation rules, but is openly asking to both waste Approvals time reviewing a character you don't want to play while also wasting other players' time as you'd want them to interact with a character you have zero investment in and will dispose of unceremoniously, which other players commented on with wariness after you proposed this in the middle of a lively discussion of another player's concept.

As for character sheets, we offer a wide-variety of character sheet options that you were directed to, including both a google sheet and Excel sheet that does calculations, as well as the section directly stating that we will accept most any type of sheet, like MrGone's custom ones. The one sheet you first proposed was very difficult on the eyes to clearly view information with dark blues and purples in the entire form.

For Face Claims, our community is filled with artists that broadly wouldn't enjoy their art being taken without permission and thus apply the same standards to all original content; we absolutely allow fanart, art freely released by the artist or done as non-commissioned or testing art, and other publicly given and free to use Face Claims that wouldn't be considered stealing OCs.

Once more, we sincerely apologize that your experience was poor, but please understand that we were willing and actively working with you to join our Chronicle. We understand you felt restricted by our Character Creation, but it certainly appears that what was given as genuine advice and recommendations was seen as hard no's and an unfriendly server. We thank you for the kind words about what you could see post-character creation, and regret that the felt blocked and thus left with a negative review. We hope you thus may find a Chronicle you may enjoy, creation process and all.
