Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. I’m honestly a little confused by this review because it doesn’t reflect how I try to run the server.

Our community is, first and foremost, a romance book club. Politics is not a topic I encourage, and I regularly redirect political discussions when they start. The conversation you’re referring to began as a civics discussion, people were asking questions about how certain parts of government work. As someone who enjoys teaching, I answered those questions using definitions and publicly available information.

Civics and politics can sometimes overlap, but they’re not the same thing. Explaining how a system works isn’t intended as an endorsement of any political party or ideology.

My goal has always been to create a welcoming space where people from all backgrounds can share their love of books. Members are free to disagree with ideas, but I ask that we do so respectfully and with curiosity rather than assumptions about one another’s motives.

If anyone ever feels uncomfortable, my door is always open for a private conversation. I’m constantly trying to make this community a better place for everyone.

That approach accomplishes a few things:

* It doesn’t validate the accusation or attack the reviewer.
* It distinguishes civics from partisan politics without arguing over the reviewer’s beliefs.
* It reminds prospective members what the server is actually about.
* It ends with an invitation to communicate, which projects confidence and openness rather than defensiveness.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry you left with that impression.

Spice & Shadow is, and always has been, a romance book community, not a political one. I actively discourage partisan political discussions because they tend to distract from why we’re all here: books, reading, and connecting with fellow readers.

On rare occasions, conversations about history, civics, or current events come up naturally. When they do, my goal is to encourage respectful discussion and factual understanding, not to promote any political viewpoint. Those are two very different things.

Our members come from many different backgrounds and hold a wide range of personal beliefs. Everyone is welcome here as long as they treat others with kindness and respect.
