The Criterion Discord

We use the Criterion Collection to focus our discussions and topics, but we encourage discussion of all film, art, and boutique Blu-rays. We strive to propagate critical conversations, further our own ideas and understanding of the medium, and to be a place where every person has something valuable to add.

Join us to partake in the following with our community of filmmakers and film lovers:
* Monthly director spotlights,
* Curation Club, our "movie book club",
* Film Exchange, where you share recommendations,
* Festival and awards show coverage,
* Streamed films in our Voice Channels

I joined The Criterion Discord when I was really getting back into film. On my own I was just casually collecting a small handful of films and I had just subscribed to The Criterion Channel because of a series of arthouse animation films that they put together. The community of The Criterion Discord is varied but passionate, and they are really good at encouraging people to explore film outside of their comfort zone. The biweekly Curation Club fosters a lot of wonderful discussion and the monthly director spotlight is a great way for people to learn more about areas of film that they hadn't explored prior. Last month they had a spotlight on Filipino director Lav Diaz and this month they had a focus on Frederick Wiseman's documentaries. Users are also encouraged to stream movies for each other, leading to a vast array of films that are shown and discussed. While the focus of the server is on The Criterion Collection, the community has proven time and time again that productive conversation can be had about just any film topic. Users that stick around and make an effort to contribute meaningful feedback and observation about the films that they watch thrive here, and if you're not quite there yet, users here are often willing to help facilitate provocative thought
