In this universe, the Death of Batman never happened. Jonathan Crane never revealed the true identity of the Caped Crusader. Instead, Jason Todd arrived just in time, shooting Jonathan Crane through the hand the moment he reached for Batman's cowl, before firing a second shot that shattered the chains keeping Batman confined. Finally free, Batman turned the tables as Jonathan Crane was exposed to his own fear toxin, causing him to rapidly hallucinate an endless nightmare where the Batman was no longer a man, but a monstrous creature stalking him through the darkness. Tim Drake was rescued before Scarecrow could finish his plan, Commissioner Gordon returned to his position within the GCPD, and Gotham celebrated another victory. But things would never be the same. The city had survived another night of terror, yet everyone who fought through it walked away changed.
