Welcome to the Twisted Benevolence Server!!

We are a twisted wonderland roleplay server set up so you can have fun without the stress! We don't have activity checks (aside from a little check in every once in a while), unlimited OC's, and we allow for duplicates of twists, as well as non Disney twists, and yuusonas!

You can plan your very own overblots for your oc's and canons! It is entirely up to you!

We are a queer and system friendly server, run by a couple of friends who want a server to just chill out and enjoy roleplaying like we did when we were younger.

I have been on this server for a while. I have to say, it's a lovely server with hard-working mods who don't force you to step out of your comfort zone when you're not ready, or try to encourage you to step outside of the norm, myself included, since I had a hard time trying out for a canon character (Jack Howl). Everyone was so helpful in providing info for me and helping me perfect his profile. It can get a bit chaotic at times, but it's for a good reason, since sometimes it's silly little interactions between muses and players. Another thing I like is how laid back it is, most importantly, being able to keep your ocs and canon characters even when life or health gets in the way, you can still keep your characters/ocs for as long as you like. I recommend this server, you want a laid-back rp server with wonderful people without the toxic immaturity

Deeply immature moderators and a highly inaccessible space

I've only been in this server for about two weeks but I was deeply disappointed by the conduct of its staff team during my time there. This server seems to pride itself on its "accessibility" for others but my time there saw anything but.

This server allows and overuses the use of "fonts" in character nicknames despite their complete inaccessibility towards dyslexic or screenreader users. There is no requirement for plain text or readable names anywhere, with numerous members of the mod team themselves having usernames containing these "fonts". It presents issues to all users with these names being unpingable, unsearchable, and often not even rendering on certain devices, but especially where dyslexic or screenreader users are concerned this server repeatedly drops the ball and does not welcome those into its space adequately at all.

This server takes something that SHOULD be accessible - trigger warnings for distressing content - and weaponises them against its users to mandate the most mundane and everyday topics come with a censor. There is no personal responsibility for one's own triggers, no leaving conversations that contain topics the individual reading is uncomfortable with; users are expected to remember the triggers of every single individual member and censor their messages accordingly. There is no management of one's own triggers, it's instead placed on the shoulders of internet strangers to do all that work for you for risk of being punished for "triggering" another. When we're in the territory of having to censor something as benign as canon characters' surnames like Jamil Viper or headcanons *as a general concept*, something must not be working and it shows a severe lack of maturity for these staff to never take that accountability to manage their own traumas or triggers. A public space for anyone to join is absolutely not the same as a private group chat with your friends, it isn't feasible to require strangers give you trigger warnings for food or animals or common everyday phrases or generic topics canonically present to Twisted Wonderland. Speaking as someone who has those sorts of "mundane" triggers myself, it's incredibly unreasonable to punish others for not knowing your list of triggers when it should be on you to remove yourself from the discussion for a moment if you cannot handle what is being discussed.

Further to this point, this mod team goes far beyond what is acceptable when this server mandates any topics to do with religion, spirituality, and physical disabilities be censored and warned for. A moderator for this space thought it appropriate to give a trigger warning for an OC having a prosthetic and had to be asked by multiple users not to censor it, their excuse being "they wanted to play it safe" because "some people find it triggering". A team of fully grown adults should not need it explained to them that censoring disabilities in this way is incredibly ableist and beyond disrespectful. During my time here I've also seen anything ranging from offhanded mentions of religious beliefs to any sort of spiritual practice like tarot reading be censored in ways that are frankly anti-spiritual and anti-theist. For a place that claims to be inclusive, this sort of behaviour towards immutable parts of a person's identity is inexcusable in its cruelty.

Overall, this server gives me the vibe of a place ran by 12 and 14 year olds instead of 20 and 40 year olds. The moderator's conduct is immature, their communication is beyond lacking, and they don't seem fit to run a public Discord server in the slightest. When questioned over some of their confusing decisions, staff leaned more towards being catty and scathing instead of being clear and upfront about their thought processes, traumadumping unprompted without any actually necessary trigger warnings and choosing to blame users for not being able to read their minds about their intentions that were never expressed or communicated. Discussions with mods are deleted seemingly arbitrarily to sweep any discourse or poor choices from their end under the rug.

User retention in this server has done nothing but plummet since I joined with most of its new members leaving after a short timeframe, and it did not take long for me to understand why. This server is not worth your time if you are seeking a mature place that accepts ALL for ALL facets of their identity, not just the ones the mods personally are okay with.

I’m sorry you had such a negative experience in our server. It was a small issue that of asking for certain conversations to take place in certain channels. The original issue frankly never involved you or your friends, it was between the mods and another member, and said member accepted the direction to move to another channel.

Addressing the topics you brought up, many we were unaware were even issues in the first place. We were unaware that the usage of fonts may cause issues for the members in the server. Generally, with the server name being in a font itself, I personally find that to be warning in itself that fonts are used in the server. We would have been happy to find a solution to the issue if you had brought it to the mod team. Alas, there was no communication from *you* that there were issues in the first place.

No one asked that Jamil Viper’s surname be censored. Images of snakes are something we ask to be censored, but not the name of a character. That never once was ever brought up. We do believe in taking accountability for ones on triggers. The topic regarding triggers was simply that putting headcanons for characters that are not your own may put people in the position of feeling pressured to accept a headcanon because of where it was said, as well as implying to new members that said headcanon is part of the server roleplay because it was put in a Rp relevant channel, as opposed to a general discussion channel. That was all we asked, was that the conversation be moved to a different channel. Yes, those things can trigger people with anxiety, autism, and other disorders than affect peoples ability to socialize. There is a lot of pressure to feel accepted by the people around you and that is what we were trying to address. We have a blacklist of things we require to be censored. A member of the staff team had a previous bad experience with role players that led to them censoring things that normally would not be censored, which was then addressed, and accepted at fault, and acknowledged that it was wrong and it wouldn’t happen again. I personally am physically disabled, as well as the mod that made the initial mistake. We understand the harm and effects of ableism and we are all learning no matter what age we are. We are also autistic and struggle severely with social interactions and understanding what is and isn’t appropriate, but that is why we are learning. The mod understood what was said to them, and the issue was resolved.

Having religion and spirituality be censored is for the comfort of people that have religious trauma, I still do not see an issue with censoring it. It is not anti anything to ask for sensitive topics to be censored and warned. We welcome all kinds of discussions, but some may need to be censored for the comfort of others. Discussion of the topics can create discomfort and yes, trigger people. Asking you to censor said topics or cease talking about a topic that makes someone uncomfortable is standard roleplay etiquette. Especially as the mods, we have the right to stop any conversation we feel necessary when it comes to member comfort. Asking for a topic to be censored is not pushing the fault onto you, it is informing and asking that you respect the decisions of the mods to have such things censored. It is frankly a bit disturbing that you think you should be able to talk about whatever you want without consequence or thinking about the comfort of others around you.

I’m sorry you feel that the mod team does not have the maturity to run a server, but frankly you and your friends are the only ones that think so. Members that witnessed the situation agree that the fault was more on your end than the mods, especially with the amount of dogpilling that was done to the mods during the whole situation. Overall this review is very much cherry -picking the situation, finding things to comment on to paint the server in a bad light. The original situation had nothing to do with you aside from the original clarifying questions, which we did answer to the best of our abilities, but you continued to pick apart what we were saying, and not only ignore the relevant parts of our responses, and reply to the parts that you did not like, you kept digging the issue further and further deeper, and whenever we didn’t wish to continue the argument, you accused us of not taking responsibility and ignoring issues in the server. We tried our best to remain civil and relatively professional in our responses, but you and your friends made it very difficult to do so.

Alongside all of this, you and your friends joined the server and almost immediately started spamming channels with your conversations, clogging chats with irrelevant conversations and making it very difficult for any members to talk. You all refused to remotely use our template or put your submissions in a format that made it easy for us to get information. Voice notes for backstories and such are not generally accepted, but we tried to make the server welcoming and accessible to members with their character submissions. We let a lot slide with your group and frankly we shouldn’t have as it let you guys think you had some sort of authority on how we should run our server.

We have a steady number of members and aside from one other member, the only people that left were your friends. That is not a lack of member retention at all. We still have many members (that are not our immediate friends) that are still more than happy to remain part of the server, and find that your actions and statements were more than inappropriate for the server, as well as harassment towards the moderation team. No one appreciates what was said or how you guys handled any of the situation. Yes, the mod team said some things that maybe were not necessary and one snarky comment was made, but to be honest the mods individually were having a bad day, dealing with external issues. I’m sorry any attitudes ended up in the discussion. We hoped that with you remaining in the server, any issues that remained were resolved, and that is why we didn’t remove yourself, and those that accompanied you and shared your opinions from the server, but you used it as an opportunity to deface the server and talk poorly on it in hopes that our server would fail to gain any new members.

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and comfortable server for all, as it was made after a difficult situation with an old server that made us feel unwelcome and unsafe in the roleplay community. We have built this small server for ourselves, and hope that it continues to be a safe space with the measures we have put in place.
