basic explanation of date everything ↯

The player loses their job and receives a mysterious pair of glasses from a stranger, the "Dateviators". These glasses allow them to "date" everyday objects in their home. The "Dateviators" enable the player to "Directly Acknowledge a Thing's Existence" (D.A.T.E.), transforming objects into anthropomorphic characters with whom they can interact.
